Miraj notes
Here is an article that brings up many of the issues that Miraj normally brings up. San Fran article on African American Muslim Polygamy. From the legalistic point I can see where she is coming from and I always have. However I have always argued that "Rule waving" never actually stops people from doing anything, and for off-the-grid Muslims the State Rules don't even come into consideration when it comes down to making decisions. I'm going to post something on B'net and see what kind of response I get in the next couple of days. I don't think she ever did respond to my last post, smart girl.
As I begin to reenter the thoughts of polygamy, I have been hit with several stories/reasonings of why it doesn't work. Examples of why I should make absolutely sure that this family living is something I'm sure I want to indulge myself in. Also the resent story of the Sister accused of murdering her husband because he planned to visit his co-wife to impregnate her. Well, upon reading Ali's story, and the comments from his wives, Asiila and Hasanah, I still have hope that polygamy is/can be something beautiful and a blessing from Allah. Thank you for sharing this article. *
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean when you say that you have been hit with several examples of where it wouldn't work. I have a friend and his marriage is now on the rocks because of his quest for a polygynous union. It was very traumatic as his wife is my wife's best friend. We were seriously considering it before they went through what they went through. So I believe that the P door is shut for good now. It is as though it were bricked in and is now only a wall. So much pain and sorrow has been experienced by those in the polygamy quest. It is a fragile road to say the least.
ReplyDeleteMy advice to you in your quest of joining a family would be that you commit yourself to that family and that commitment is shown through your actions. Establish a communication with them that is truthful and blunt and honest. You should be able to tell them anything and they should be able to tell you exactly how they are feeling. Contribute to the family and things should work themselves out.
I wish you all the best in your quest.
